Croydon’s story began with the discovery of gold in 1885, Queensland’s last big gold rush.� Gold was what ran the economy in the region for four decades and during it’s heyday, Croydon was the fourth largest town in the colony of Queensland.� Begin your visit at the True Blue Visitor Information Centre, then head outside for a stroll through the Heritage Precinct.� You can see a restored 5 head gold mining stamper in the Mining Museum, located on the original Iguana Mine Site on the edge of town.
