Georgetown had its beginnings in the gold rush days of the 1870s.� One of the more intriguing attractions in town is the Ted Elliot Mineral collection.� This impressive display of over 4500 mineral specimens, collected from all over the world, is the life work of just one man. A great way to unwind and stretch road weary legs is to follow the Georgetown River Walk.�The Cumberland Chimney is all that is left of an old gold crushing plant built by Cornish miners; the lagoon built to collect water for the� mine is now a popular watering hole for birds.
