The trackways at Dinosaur Stampede National Monument were formed 95 million years ago when a herd of 150 small two-legged dinosaurs were ambushed by a large theropod. The stampede as they all attempted to flee formed a chaotic mass of footprints in the mud as they ran to escape. Guided tours include a movie presentation, animated recreations of the stampede and viewing over 3,300 dinosaur footprints scattered over the rock face. A free self-guided walking circuit around the Dinosaur Stampede National Monument is also available on the Spinifex Circuit.
